This artwork captures the powerful moment of Whātaitai's transformation into the sacred bird, Te Keo, a pivotal event in the lesser-known Māori legend of Ngake and Whātaitai.

The design features a bold, towering form made of flowing white lines that draw heavily on traditional kōwhaiwhai and tā moko patterns. This structure symbolizes the journey from the earth and water. At its peak, the small, dynamic figure of Te Keo represents the spirit's ascent and freedom.

My goal in creating this piece is to bring forgotten Māori legends back to life through art. By blending ancestral patterns with a contemporary, striking visual style, I invite you to see these essential stories in a new light. This design is available in multiple vibrant colourways, ensuring the narrative remains sharp against any background.
